Featured Destinations in Hawaii That are Both Budget-Friendly and Romantic

Nothing brings a couple closer than a trip to an exotic destination. Most people agree that few destinations are more romantic and exotic than Hawaii. A trip to these beautiful islands could be just what you both need to put the spark back in your relationship. Sadly, very few of us can afford a trip like that. Even if we can afford the airfare, most of the hotels in Hawaii are ridiculously overpriced and are thus out of our reach.  Thankfully, there are a few affordable options for a hard-working couple that wants to have a good time and reconnect.

In order to get the best of both worlds, it may be time to stop considering an all-inclusive, five-star resort. Enjoying the islands can include staying in a small resort, enjoying a-l-carte meals or hopping from one Airbnb to the other. As long as you do your research and the location is considered safe and comfortable, there is no reason for you both not to have a good time. Exploring beyond the walls of a resort is one of the best ways to truly experience the flavor of the islands. It is also best to avoid those dedicated resort towns where everything is overpriced. If you are up for the adventure, here are the top five budget-friendly options that are worth considering:

Option One: Hilo

Hilo is the capital of the mainland island of Hawaii. Rates are as low as 900 per person for the entire week. It is by far one of the most affordable places in Hawaii. This is a lot less than the $400 to $600 per night minimum being charged by most resorts in the area. Hilo is perfect for those adventurous couples that enjoy hiking trails along picturesque mountainsides and diving into hidden waterfalls. Other attractions in the area include the Liliuokalani Park which has seen many romantic picnics and the Imiloa Astronomy Center. Visitors can also take their pick from one of the many quaint little restaurants.

Option Two: Waikoloa

Waikoloa is located on the breathtaking Kohala Coast. It is one of the best destinations in Hawaii because even in the winter, the temperature is still around 62–78°. A weeklong trip in this area could cost around $1400 for a family sized condo or even less for a stay in a private family home. Some of the more popular activities in Waikoloa include swimming, kayaking, golfing and snorkeling. The waters are clear and calm and perfect for any romantic activity you may have in mind.

Option Three: Pahoa

Pahoa is another reasonably priced option on the island of Hawaii. It is often referred to as the perfect place for hippies and nature lovers since it is far less urbanized than the rest of the island. It is home to a number of coconut groves, farmer’s markets, and nature trails. Pahoa is also a great place for visitors who enjoy natural hot springs, black sand beaches, and snorkeling. It is also quite an experience visiting the Lava Trees State Park since it is unlike most of the parks you’ve seen before. A weeklong stint in this area could cost a little over $900 per week but it will certainly be worth it to spend a week in this lush, green, romantic paradise.

Option Four: Kihei

Kihei is the place to stay in Maui if you want to be closer to all the action. But of course, this will come at a cost. A week in Kihei costs around $1800. While still less than resort prices, this is quite a pretty penny since this cost does not include food, travel, and entertainment. Regardless, a trip to this side of town is certainly worth it, even if you can only afford to stay here for a few days. Popular attractions here include Haleakala Crater, the Hawaiian Islands Humpback Whale Sanctuary Visitor Center and the Iao Valley. Kihei is also home to a number of exquisite boutiques and excellent restaurants.

These are just a few options worth considering if visiting Hawaii. There is really no reason to break the bank on a five-resort when you can easily rent a nice villa or condo in the area of your choice for far less money. Regardless of how you decide to arrange your visit, rest assured that the trip will be unforgettable and that is why Hawaii is always featured as one of the top destinations around the world.
