Travelling to Bali


Visiting Bali can be the experience of a lifetime. The Indonesian island is a popular destination for many travelers worldwide. The stunning blue waters and beautiful green scenery sticks with you for a long time. Bali is also a country that is proud of their culture. The largely Hindu society adheres to centuries of tradition that can still be seen practiced in their society today.

An Island Oasis

When you hear the name Bali, you think of an island paradise. It is surround by beauty at all angles. When you land in Ngurah Rai International Airport, you are first going to notice the warm and tropical weather. The best time to visit is during the dry season. April through October has the most stable weather perfect for vacation. If you happen to schedule your vacation during the wet season, October through March, you are going to be in for some wild weather.

Bali’s wet season is known for its huge downpours that can border on the edge of monsoons. It is not advised to come during this time as traveling can be rather tricky. Enjoy pleasurably warm weather during the dry season, and you can experience all the island has to offer.

Culture

The locals here speak Balinese, Indonesian, and English. Most of the island is aware that they are a tourist destination, and English can be heard being spoken in the majority of businesses. It doesn’t hurt though, to brush up on some of the local phrases that you can use when while you make your travels.

The Bali people are known for their art and dance. Make sure you visit a local museum or exhibit while you are here. There is so much to learn about how the country came into existence. They have managed to not lose themselves as a people even though the island has changed over time.

Bali Food

Not surprisingly, the local cuisine here is heavily influenced by Indonesian culture. There are also some Indian and Asian influences that can be seen and tasted in their dishes as well. The Bali people love their spices and a lot of their foods contain red chilis, garlic, and other pungent aromas that you can smell from a mile away.

Fish dishes are the main attraction of many restaurants here. The fish are caught in the morning and are on your plate by dinner time. Rice and vegetables accompany most meals. While the food sounds simple, don’t be fooled by the lack of ingredients. There are dozens of standout foods that you are bound to encounter.

Traveling on the Island

The best way to get around Bali is by hiring a driver. Taxis can be expensive, and public transportation can be confusing if you don’t know what you are doing. Leave it to someone else to drive while you roam the country. As soon as you get on the road, the traffic can be intense. It is organized chaos to the best of drivers and can be intimidating to the first time traveler.

Some hotels have complimentary shuttles, so check with your lodging to see if that is an option for you. They can pick you up at the airport and take you to your hotel. If you are daring, you can rent a bicycle for cheap and make your way around town. However, just like car traffic, bicycling on Bali streets can be dangerous if you are not paying attention. Make sure you are always going with the flow of pedestrian traffic and keep your eyes and ears open at all times.

What to Do

There is a lot to see while you vacation in Bali. Make sure you make your way to some of the stunning temples that dot the island. Tirta Empul Temple is one of the top destinations of many who visit. The temple is not as big or grand as some of the others, but it makes up for that when it comes to the location. Once you enter the temple, you are immediately overtaken by its serenity. There is a large pool where worshippers go in to pray. While you can watch, do not disturb anyone who is in active worship.

Of course, there are also the infamous beaches that you must visit while you are here. Jimbaran is a coastal town that has become popular with a lot of tourists. The sandy beaches are spectacular at any time of day, and you are going to enjoy watching the sunrise and sunset from the shoreline. If you plan on staying on a beach side resort here or anywhere else in Bali, make sure you find one with the proper amenities for you. It can be pricey to find a comfortable location, but it is well worth it. You are left with an incomparable experience that you are going to remember for the rest of your life.
